1. What have you learned about Greek culture, values, and religion? Address the roles of women and men, honor and virtues, gods and goddesses, etc. (250 words)

Watching the Odyssey I learned a lot about Greek culture, values, and religion. seeing somebody live their day to day lives can tell you a lot. For instances you would be considered a boy if you did not have a beard. Well at least Antinous said so and all of the men in the building had beards at the time. In there culture one most also prove himself worthy for him to marry a women. They also seem to have a lot of creatures that you would not like to be around and all of them would do something wrong with men. The cyclops would eat them. The witch would seduce them and then turn them into animals. The nymph would trap them on her island an every other single thing would kill and eat them (furiously).
Religion is really the same as the creatures except there are gods. The people worship the gods. Especially Athena. They attack like she is the main god the go to her for almost every thing. Other gods have stupid powers to me. It is like hey I am the god of drinking wine and partying with women. That sounds like a great power but it is kinda worth less. Other gods they treat like crap(cough cough Poseidon). It is almost like they are insecure and say everything has a god.
When it comes to men and women that is a whole different story. Men are treated like gods as to women being treated like objects. When Odysseus was on his journey he did it with two different women numerous times without regard for his wife. While Penelope sat at home with about twenty different men and did nothing
2. What resonated with you in reading about Odysseus’ adventures? Why? (150 words)

In Odysseus travels there are a lot of "interesting" things. From evil seductresses to horrible monsters. they all are very intriguing. Not to say it was a bad movie but some of the parts were they are just sitting around talking about how good the world is, is not the most interesting part of the movie. Not to say I am a freak but I liked the part were the people were dying and struggling to survive. The first best part was on Cyclops island were they actually saw the Cyclops then one guy got eaten. then they stabbed the cyclops in the eye and he was bleeding all over the place. Oh I for got when the sea serpent got that that guy and was like tossing him up int the air. Then the second best part is when they went to the the witches island and saw all of the animals. Then when they kept on getting eaten by that three headed monster in the cave. Now that was really bloody and when they gave it that goat. Finally when they got back home and the killing spree started.
3. This epic poem is dated nearly 3000 years ago, why is it still relevant? (150 words)

To tell you all the truth I do not know why this poems still relevant. I have seen a lot of movies that have to do with a long story. Basically almost every single movie I have seen has to do with somebody going on a journey to achieve something (except maybe Napoleon Dynamite). Maybe because the author is still a mystery. Blind men who made up a story like that and really have no record about him self that anybody really knows about him. I know one reason why I like it is because it is interesting, and I can kind of relate in my own little personal way. It reminds me of my childhood and just trying to find my way in the world. This wonderful movie also reminds me of O Brother Were Out Thou and their journey to find the treasure. They have beautiful singing sirens, ugly one eyed Cyclops, and water demon thingies.
Short Answers-Answer in complete sentences. Cut and paste each question and answer underneath the prompt.
4. How would you characterize the narrator, the fictive "Homer" whose voice we imagine as singing the verses of the Odyssey?

Actually I would think of Odysseus as Homers dream want to be person. Since Homer is blind and not really able to defend himself he could think of himself as Odysseus.
5. What kinds of behavior are treated as contemptible in the Odyssey?

I do not really know waht contemptible means but I say that It is almost like every body is in a contained rage format.
6. How does the poem represent mortal women? Since Penelope is the most important woman in the Odyssey, what qualities does she possess, and how does she respond to the troubles she faces? (Some of the other women are of note, too-Eurycleia the serving woman, the faithless maidservants, Nausicaa the Phaeacian princess, and Helen of Sparta, Menelaus' queen, whose elopement with Prince Paris sparked the Trojan War.)

Penelope always seems to I will be happy once Odysseus gets back until then I have no emotion. While all of the other women are like Oh no be sad Odysseus is gone what should we do about it Oh I know we should cry about it.
7.How do Homer's gods think and behave? How do their actions and motivations differ from the conception of god in other religions of which you have knowledge? What role do the Homeric gods play in human affairs, and what is the responsibility of humans with respect to those gods?

The Homeric gods have a job for every thing. While the Christian god just has on go to do all of the other job. They all act like they must be respected and viewed as the most high and mighty thing. While Christian God is like just do not do anthing wrong and it's all good.

Miazaki
In Ms.Chiangs class we watched three miazaki movies. Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totorro and Princess Mononoko. All three of these movies were very interesting and I woul recomend them to anyone who likes action and comedy.
These three also had a alot incommon with each other. All three had different types of spirits in them. Each spirit was unique in its own way and were very different from each other. The sprits were also very big, or there were alot of them to make them look like they were big. All three also had young girls as there semi-main character, and the movie was mainly about trying to fight for them or making them happy in some way. The third and final thing that I saw that they had incommon was how they all look like non-urban style. they seemed to be more like a rural setting than any thing. It was almost like they were in ancient times especially when they incountered the spirits.
These movies were very fasinating, I love them and would not mine making them part of my home movie collection. I some day hope to see more Miazaki movies, if I had time to then I would deffinetly see somemore, but until then i am out.

Disillusionment

When I was a child I used to think that alot of things were better than they seemed.

Like, catching and touching snakes. Now that I have grown up a little bit more I realized that, catching and touching is really not all it is cracked up to be. Now, I can catch a snake as easy as most people can put on a coat.

Also, Santa Claus. My sister still believes but I know better than that. All it takes is a few PG-13 movies to figure that out. I always wondered how he could get his self down chimneys when alot of people don't have them

Advantages and Disadvantages

How I'm disadvantaged
1. One reason why I'm disadvantaged is because I lack social skills. It is kind of like if I do not grow up with you I do not know you and kind of do not really want to know you. Because I had problems when I was a child.

How I'm advantaged
1. I was raised by great parents.
2. I have good manners and I'm playful.
3. I can always find a way to get out of something
4. I'm blessed. To me it is not about the clothes you wear. It is not about how you look. It is about knowing who you are inside and what your goals are.
